Let’s Build Omaha’s Best Tech Workforce Together

Before finding Code Black Tech, La’Keshia wasn’t sure what she wanted to do with her career. She tried call centers, behavioral health transportation, and more, but nothing felt right. She decided she needed to change careers paths and wanted to pivot to the IT world, which is when she found Code Black Tech. Although she was very nervous about not catching on, it turns out she caught on quite quickly! “It was nice getting to see people like me, you know, trying to do something with themselves…who had the same types of goals that I had.” The team at Code Black Tech had a huge impact, from the amazing teachers like Alex and Tayla, to David who modeled perseverance and keeps pushing to keep the classes accessible. One of the biggest lessons she learned is that sometimes you don’t need to know everything as long as you know where to find the information you need. La’Keshia went from working in a call center to being the Local Site Administrator Supervisor in less than two years, doubling her income. Code Black helped her financially, but most of all her day-to-day has a brighter outlook. “I like what I do. People say I put a smile on their face, because I’m happy and when you are happy you can do that.” La’Keshia believes tech is for everyone! “It’s not where you start, its just getting started. It’s never too late.”
